Yesterday was my birthday… and in a strange way, it confirmed something I’ve always quietly known at the end of the day. It’s really just me.
I’m not sad about it, but I won’t lie… I’m disappointed. Not in a loud, emotional way, just in that calm, sobering realization when you see things for what they are.
Out of all the people I consider “my people,” only a few showed up in the simplest way a message, a call, a small gesture. I counted it all, not out of bitterness, but because it made me see clearly. Some even reached out for favours yesterday without a single “happy birthday.” Others asked if it was really my birthday… and still left it there.
That said, I’m genuinely grateful to those who remembered and made an effort. It didn’t go unnoticed.
But this experience has reminded me of something important: I need to move differently. Not out of anger, but out of awareness. Energy will now be matched, effort will now be measured, and access to me will no longer be free. Growth sometimes comes quietly, and yesterday was one of those moments.
