The Zambian government will not challenge the decision of the South African Supreme court of appeal that has set aside the order to have former president Edgar Lungu’s body repatriated in Zambia for a state funeral - Mulilo Kabesha, Attorney General of Zambia.

The Lusaka City Council (LCC) reports that Kafue Roundabout's modernisation is 50% complete. The upgrade will improve traffic flow, pedestrian safety, lighting, and landscaping. After completion, work will move to Kabwe Roundabout. The project is funded by Wonderful Group of Companies as corporate social responsibility, supervised by LCC. Motorists and pedestrians are urged to follow traffic signs. LCC also encourages other businesses to support city redevelopment.

Over 100 Zambians in South Africa have requested government assistance to return home amid anti-immigration protests. The government, through the DMMU, Foreign Affairs, Defence, and the Zambian High Commission in Pretoria, is facilitating voluntary repatriation. Last month, 47 were brought back, and officials traveled to Durban and East London on Saturday to coordinate more returns. Zambians are urged to register on the ZamSA Connect platform for communication and support. No Zambian has been reported injured, and the government will continue monitoring the situation and assisting those wishing to return safely.

A 28-year-old woman, Gladys Kapya, allegedly hacked her two sons (ages 4 and 1 month) to death with a hoe on June 22, 2026, in Mansa District. Police found the bodies on a blood-stained mattress. The grandmother revealed Gladys had prior mental health issues and had been withdrawn since her second child's birth. The suspect is undergoing a medical assessment, while the bodies await post-mortem.

South Africa's Supreme Court of Appeal will rule today on whether former President Edgar Lungu's remains must be repatriated to Zambia for a state funeral, as ordered by a Pretoria High Court. The Lungu family's appeal against that decision will determine his final burial place and arrangements.
