PFF Acting Executive Director Engages Stakeholders in Eswatini
The Acting Executive Director of the Prisoners’ Future Foundation (PFF), Mr. Mark Musiwa, is currently in the Kingdom of Eswatini on an official engagement mission aimed at strengthening partnerships and advancing collaborative efforts in criminal justice reform and social reintegration.
During his visit, Mr. Musiwa is holding strategic engagements with Civil Society Organisations (CSOs) and the Council of Eswatini Churches in Manzini, Council of Swaziland Churches and Swaziland Peoples Movement.
These engagements are focused on fostering cooperation in promoting human rights, supporting rehabilitation initiatives, and advocating for the welfare of individuals in conflict with the law.
A key aspect of the mission is to engage stakeholders on the global movement towards the abolition of the death penalty. PFF is encouraging dialogue and reflection on the importance of aligning with abolitionist states, with the hope that Eswatini may, in due course, join the community of nations that have abolished capital punishment in favour of more humane and restorative justice approaches.
The visit underscores PFF’s commitment to regional collaboration and knowledge exchange, particularly in addressing shared challenges affecting justice systems and vulnerable populations across Southern Africa.

Access to justice should never depend on where someone is held
During the Judges’ Forum, Chief Justice Mumba Malila called for the formal integration of mobile courts into Zambia’s judicial system, emphasizing the need to include them in official court calendars and planning processes.
Through partnerships with the Embassy of Ireland, Irish Rule of Law International, the Judiciary of Zambia, the Legal Aid Board, and the Zambia Correctional Service, the mobile court initiative has already demonstrated its impact reducing delays, clearing case backlogs, and bringing justice closer to inmates in correctional facilities.
The pilot project covered nine correctional facilities across Lusaka, Central, and Copperbelt Provinces, improving access to justice and enabling many inmates to progress through the formal court system.
As the initiative moves from pilot to institutionalisation, stakeholders agree that mobile courts are a powerful tool for a more accessible, efficient, and humane justice system in Zambia.

ACCESS TO JUSTICE – MONGU DISTRICT
The Prisoners’ Future Foundation (PFF), with support from MISEREOR – the German Catholic Bishops’ Organization for Development Cooperation, continues to strengthen access to justice in Mongu District.
In February 2026 alone, Prisoners’ Future Foundation Mulambwa Paralegal Officer Ms. Larven Mwanza reports that the Legal Aid Desk assisted 33 clients (19 adult males, 7 adult females, and 7 male juveniles), handling both criminal and civil matters including theft, assault, GBV, child maintenance, land disputes, and probate cases.
Beyond case handling, the deask:
- Conducted routine visits to Mongu Central Police Cells, interacting with 24 detainees to assess welfare and provide legal guidance.
- Assisted eligible suspects to access bond, contributing to a reduction in prolonged detentions.
- Followed up cases with the National Prosecution Authority, resulting in 12 long-pending matters being scheduled for court hearings.
- Participated in the official opening of the High Court Session to strengthen collaboration with justice sector stakeholders.
- Attended a one-day Diversion training to enhance child-friendly justice approaches for juveniles in conflict with the law.
Our continued follow-ups and collaboration with justice institutions are yielding positive results improving case management, protecting vulnerable individuals, and ensuring that no one is left behind in accessing justice.
We remain committed to promoting fair, timely, and accountable justice for all.

Thank you Team PFF, back home.
Access to justice is not a privilege; it is a fundamental right.
In January 2026, the Kapulanga Paralegal Officer Ms. Kasambo Zulu under Prisoners’ Future Foundation continued to bridge the gap between vulnerable communities and the justice system in Mongu District.
With generous support from Misereor, we provided legal guidance, bond facilitation, mediation, referrals, and legal education across five communities, including Kapulanga.
