VISA APPLICATIONS
As we approach the end-of-year holiday travel season, our Rennies Travel Executive Client Services team is noting that while embassies are taking longer than usual to process visa applications, it is also sometimes challenging to secure appointments with the outsourced visa processing companies. We therefore encourage our travellers planning to travel overseas to accommodate this traditional peak period and submit their visa applications as soon as possible.
ZIMBABWE
Following the overnight political developments in Zimbabwe, Fastjet has confirmed that their flights between South Africa and Zimbabwe and in-country are operating as per their normal schedule. They do recommend that passengers allow extra time for check-in and screening procedures, as these may take longer than usual. The airline confirmed that they are monitoring the situation and will issue updates should circumstances change.
According to the latest media report, Zimbabwe's state radio resumed some of its normal programming shortly after noon on Wednesday while a news broadcast at the top of the hour reported extensively on the earlier army statement, as well as two other local news items and announced premier league soccer fixtures scheduled for Wednesday. President Mugabe remains at home under heavy guard and there have been no reports of further military action within the country during the morning.

DURBAN
FLOODING AND TORRENTIAL RAIN
KwaZulu-Natal residents in Durban have been urged to stay indoors as a massive storm is currently affecting the city and immediate surrounds. The southern parts of the city are said to be the hardest hit and some parts of Amanzimtoti are flooded, while hail was reported in the city centre and surrounding suburbs.
eThekwini Municipality has put out a warning calling on all to remain in safety until the storm, which is expected to subside around 14:00, passes. Commuters are also being cautioned against driving or walking anywhere for the duration of the storm.
All roads in the southern parts of Durban have been closed due to localised flooding. The new bridge at the N2/M42 interchange at Gateway has started to cave in and could collapse. Emergency services are on the scene and motorists are asked to avoid this area.
