A multigenerational getaway in Bend called for clear listening, and designers Rick Berry and Ryan Yoshida delivered. Set on a sloped site bordering Forest Service land, the home was conceived to float lightly above the terrain, with half the structure cantilevered over the hillside. Stacked volumes shift like tectonic plates, framing views of the Cascade peaks from every main room. Inside, intimate and functional spaces are grounded by cedar cladding and a board-formed concrete fireplace, while basalt site walls root the dwelling in its landscape of pines and lava rock.
