1. During the time of the Roman Empire, roughly between 500 BC and AD 476, basic plumbing structures evolved into extensive systems that carried water and are regarded as models for the sinks, showers, tubs, toilets, and drains we use today. The Romans built aqueducts to transport water from the countryside into Rome.
2. The Latin word for lead is plumbum, from which we derive the words plumber and plumbing.
3. Archaeologists discovered the first water pipes in the Indus River in India, dating back to 4000- 3000 B.C.
4. 1738 – The first valve-type flush toilet invented by J.F. Brondel. In that same year, John Harington gifted Queen Elizabeth I with the first flushable toilet. She was too scared to use it because it made terrible rushing water sounds.
5. The first shower was invented in 1810.
