This is the 1975 Republic Day Trophy at Kyalami, featuring Guy Tunmer guiding that iconic orange-and-brown Team Gunston Lotus 72 through the corner, with Nolly Limberis chasing him down in the McLaren M10.

It’s crazy to think we used to have full grids of top-tier machinery like this battling it out regularly on local soil. Ben van Rensburg nailed the shot here, you can practically smell the racing fuel and tyre smoke just looking at it.

There’s something about 1970s saloon racing that modern track days just can't match. This is Coenraad Spamer throwing his "Team Castrol" Alfa Giulia Super into a corner at the 1975 Highveld 100

Look closely and you can see the road registration (TCD 18610) still on the front. Back then, they really did race what they drove on the street during the week.
