It was only a month ago that Halima Cisse from Mali set a world record by giving birth to nine babies.
But that’s already ancient history!
Gosiame Sithole from Tembisa in Gauteng gave birth to seven boys and three girls on Monday night at 29 weeks through caesarean section.
Sithole told the Pretoria News that two doctors had earlier detected that she was carrying six babies. It was later confirmed there were four more who were in the wrong tube.
Sithole, who is 37 years old and unemployed, has six-year-old twins. She and her husband, Tebogo Tsotetsi call their children a miracle from God because they were conceived naturally.
“This wasn’t an easy journey, but my children stayed in the womb without any complications.”
The father, who is also unemployed, said he was overwhelmed when he was told about the pregnancy.
“I couldn’t believe it. I felt like one of God’s chosen children. I can’t wait to hold them in my arms,” he said.
Tsotetsi said his wife went through a lot during the pregnancy, as she experienced leg pains and heartburn from as early as eight weeks.
The first quintuplets reported to have been conceived naturally and survived infancy are the Dionne girls from Canada.
