โThe greatest legacy we can leave is not only in what we achieve, but in how we serve others with compassion, dignity, and purpose.โ
Today, we honour the life and legacy of Nelson Mandela; a leader who reminded us that lasting change begins with service, compassion, and a commitment to the wellbeing of others.
As healthcare professionals, we are privileged to serve women and families during some of lifeโs most significant moments. Every consultation, every birth, every conversation, and every act of care is an opportunity to uphold the dignity and humanity of those we serve.
This Nelson Mandela Day, may we all be inspired to make a meaningful difference in our communities; whether through kindness, generosity, or simply taking the time to care for someone in need.
Together, small acts of service have the power to create lasting impact.
Happy Nelson Mandela Day, South Africa. ๐ฟ๐ฆ

Postpartum Awareness Month๐
We spend so much time preparing women for birth, yet far too little time preparing them for what comes after.
The truth is, your postpartum journey doesnโt end at six weeks. Your body has carried, nurtured, and brought new life into the world, and recovery is a process that deserves time, patience, and compassionate care.
Many new mothers experience pelvic floor weakness, hormonal changes, hair shedding, abdominal separation, breast changes, or discomfort during intimacy. These are common postpartum experiences; but they should never be dismissed as something you simply have to โlive with.โ
One of the most important conversations I have with my patients is this: your body is not failing you; it is healing. And healing deserves support.
A comprehensive postpartum review is about more than checking a box. Itโs an opportunity to assess your physical recovery, discuss any concerns, and ensure you receive the care you need - including referral to a pelvic health physiotherapist where appropriate.
This Postpartum Awareness Month, letโs change the narrative. New mothers deserve to feel informed, supported, and confident in every stage of recovery.
If youโve recently welcomed your little one, remember: your health matters too.

It's SANCA Drug Awareness Week (22โ27 June), and 26 June is the International Day Against Drug Abuse.
We talk about substances and men's health and youth; rarely about women's reproductive health. So let's have that conversation, without judgement.
Swipe through for a few facts shared with care. And if any of this is relevant to where you are, bring it to your next appointment.

Happy Father's Day to all the incredible fathers, grandfathers, and father figures.
As an OB/GYN, I have the privilege of witnessing the beginning of many families' stories. One of the most beautiful sights is seeing fathers show up with love, reassurance, and unwavering support; from antenatal visits to the delivery room and throughout the journey of parenthood.
Today, we celebrate the men who nurture, protect, encourage, and walk alongside their families with quiet strength and enduring love.
Thank you for the countless ways you help create healthy, happy homes.
Wishing you a joyful Father's Day filled with love and precious moments with those who matter most๐

๐ฟ๐ฆ๐"The courage of the youth of 1976 reminds us that ordinary voices can shape extraordinary futures."
Today, we commemorate 50 years since the Soweto Uprising of 16 June 1976; a defining moment in South Africa's history that demonstrated the courage, resilience, and determination of young people in the face of injustice.
As we honour the generation that stood up for their right to learn, dream, and be heard, we are reminded that every generation carries the responsibility of building a better future.
To the young people of South Africa: your voice matters, your dreams matter, and your contribution to our nation matters.
May we continue to create a society where every young person has the opportunity to thrive, lead, and reach their full potential.
Happy Youth Day, South Africa.

Today is National Cancer Survivors Day, and June is Youth Month; which makes this the right week to talk about a cancer we can largely prevent.
Two things make almost all the difference: the HPV vaccine and the Pap smear. Both are accessible. Both are life-saving. Both are not done often enough.
Swipe through. Share with a young woman in your life.
