Wow, we voted today to hold ourselves accountable for not passing a budget. HJR M would have withheld legislative pay after a budget deadline has passed. We needed 73 votes to get it in the state constitution. All Republicans voted for it and most of the Democrats voted against it. This resolution would have made the House and Senate get serious about the work needed to get a state budget deal passed.

Wow, what a show at the Capitol this week. Many of us were in town if a deal was made on tip wage and paid time off. No attempt to negotiate any of the serious issues were made. The Dems had 56 votes on last Friday to pass several bills until their members said I have had enough and I am going home. They could not get all 56 members to show up yesterday and today to pass anything. The 56th member showed up today to negotiate on a few bills they would vote on but, the Speaker refused to even have a conversation with them. They didn’t need any R’s to pass anything and couldn’t talk amongst themselves to agree on an agenda. Dysfunction is all I can say. Dec 31st Sine die for this 102 legislative session.
