'ULU movement practices are circular, spiraling and repetitive. A trance and entry point into the absolute.
We wanted the design of Pōhala's first book to embody that. 🌀
In Mū-Hawaiian doctrines, the He'e (octopus) is considered the sole surviving species from the previous Universe, its blood blue - the color of the spiraling vertebrae on the front cover.
The cover was designed with the texture of an ink stain, holding deep symbolism and secret meaning blended with a modern twist.
Our intention was to make ancient wisdom feel accessible and relevant in modern society today.
This project was a reminder that design can bridge worlds - it takes ancestral knowledge and creates forms we can connect with now, a portal into healing that might have otherwise stayed out of reach.
