BUTCHER EYES SHOOTOUT TOP FIVE
With the 24th annual Krikke Boys Shootout approaching fast this Saturday night, Ben Butcher is almost salivating for another strong finish, particularly after the Big Chap 57 lapper on February 20th.
With the comfort and knowledge they have got a little of their mojo back after a tough season, he is eying off a top five finish and hopes his run of good luck will serve him well come this weekend.
A stellar field of drivers are lining up for one of the most prestigious events on the WA sprintcar racing calendar and Butcher is keen to put his right foot down once again with this also being the first round of the Triple Crown series.
“We’re ready for this weekend,” he smiled. “Maintenance is sorted and the car is ready to go.”
A determined Butcher was also keen to stake his name on the three round series that lies ahead.
“It’s no secret, that our season hasn’t gone to plan,” he said. “This is a chance for us to make up for that and get the car up there, which is the goal, starting with the Shootout this weekend.”
Separating from the Maddington Toyota, the mini series allows for drivers to keep their eyes on a series win over not so many events and Butcher is super keen to make up for lost ground.
“We have a competitive car, I know that,” he said. “And the team knows that, so this weekend, we’ll be going hard.”
Ben is no stranger to running Krikke Boys Shootout events, this will be his 6th outing at the big race, all be it running in Perth and not Bunbury, its traditional home.
He understands what it would mean for his career to even chalk up a podium for the prized event.
“This race has a massive following, particularly here in WA,” he stated. “I’ll be pushing hard to get the car up there, a podium would be awesome.”
With him coming close at the last event, pushing for a podium and having to head infield, he found his way back to 6th from 14th place and the W42 was clearly on song.
His plan is to continue on that path for the remainder of the season and look forward to preparing for season 2021/22.
With a top five competitive car under him, Saturday can’t come soon enough for the youngster who is keen to chase the ultimate glory.
