A 34-year-old Metro East woman will spend the next four decades behind bars after admitting she not only s*xually abused a young child herself — but stood by while her boyfriend did the same.

Ashley Rusk, of Bethalto, was sentenced Tuesday following guilty pleas to predatory criminal s*xual assault and permitting the s*xual abuse of a child.
According to prosecutors, Rusk committed s*xual acts against a child under the age of 13 in September 2023. Then, in February 2025, rather than protect the victim, she allowed her boyfriend, Blake Clemons, 36, to carry out his own abuse against the child.

Clemons remains held at the Madison County Jail as he awaits trial on related charges.
The case reflects one of the most disturbing patterns in child abuse prosecutions — adults who are entrusted with a child’s safety choosing instead to become both perpetrators and enablers.

Rusk’s 40-year sentence was handed down Tuesday in Madison County.
