MCLT Funding access given big boost
The Midhurst Community Land Trust (MCLT) has been awarded Charitable
Status by the Charities Commission.
A major benefit to the Trust is that we are now eigibile to bid for grant funding
from certain funders who only provide grants to charitable organisations.
The need for affordable homes to rent in the area is ever increasing and we
have several potential projects under discussion and this grant funding access
will make a big difference in their viability.
What will also help is that Charitable status means that the group does not have to
pay income tax on any profits it makes, nor does it have to pay Land Tax or Stamp
Duty.
As the Charities Commission state in our successful application. “Charities have
a special place in our society because they are committed to helping others.
This creates a level of trust from the public that we must protect.”
