Feeling very privileged to have been invited to be the guest curator for this year’s Redcar Summer Exhibition
It’s an incredible line up of artists from a very strong submission in response to this year’s theme ‘about time’.
I am very grateful to .art for the invitation and excited to also have been able to invite some incredible artists working in very different ways with time to be part of this exhibition:
Rachael Allain
Martin John Callanan
Jem Finer
Katie Paterson .katie.paterson
Lala Rukh Selim
Opening 11 July 5pm-8pm! If you are in the area please come and visit
Last days to see ‘Recreation’
which closes next Monday 31st March.
It’s an exhibition of new work made while I was artist in residence at Bangkok University last month, February 2025.
Also included in the exhibition are two existing works - Love Brid (2009), a short film portrait of Bridlington, a seaside town on the North East Coast of England commissioned by Animate Projects and the archive of images accrued to date of Rising Tides, my commission for the Bangkok Art Biennale (BAB 2024): Nurture Gaia
Recreation takes its name from Bang Pu, the Recreation Center close to where the Chao Phraya river meets the sea on the Bay of Bangkok.
I first became aware of Bang Pu while on a residency at last year when researching my contribution for BAB 2024 .
I was struck not only by its distinctive architecture, but also the way the migrating seagulls were not only welcomed there each winter but actively celebrated as a feature, a tourist attraction.
In the UK seagulls are seen as a nuisance. They scavenge for food in urban seaside areas sometimes even swooping in to sn**ch food from people’s hands as they are eating. Visitors are implored not to feed the gulls, not to encourage them, while the reverse is true at Bang Pu.
A digital version of the catalogue is now available to download from my website at the link in the profile.
