I read that in Japan, there is a word called Kokorozashi, and I love this word because it defines something I always yearned for but thought was nameless.
It means the direction your heart points, the purpose you live with. It isn’t ambition, but something deeper, more present, and part of one’s own internal rhythm.
It is about how you help others, what you care deeply about, and what you are willing to show up for, even when no one is watching.
In ancient times, samurai warriors lived by this word, defining a purpose to drive every decision. Can we apply it to our own times, or have presence and self-awareness been lost in the shuffle?
How do you choose to treat others? How do you choose to treat yourself? How do you choose to let others treat you? What do you protect and nurture? That becomes who you really are.

FRENCH-AMERICAN ARTISTIC EXCHANGE
During COVID, I applied for and received the equivalent of my BFA in Dance with the French Diplôme d’État, which I think speaks to the high quality of education I received from
During my application process, I was asked to write a letter of intention. One of those intentions was to facilitate exchanges between American and French artists.
I am proud to have brought that intention to life thanks to my work with in the US and in Paris.
This summer, two of my former students will be working with Ravensquid Ballet in Paris. I am so proud of their bravery and sense of adventure. I have known both dancers since they were little girls, and I am so proud of the women they have become!
Megan and Lilly, I am so excited for you and can’t wait to share Paris with you! Ravensquid and NEWDO, thank you for the opportunities you have provided me to grow!
