Love flowers but don't have much room in your garden? Incorporate them indoors too!

Bethany Bey doesn't add anything to her home without a reason. "I want things that are pretty, but I also want them to be functional," she says.

She started drying flowers from her patio garden and hanging them from her ceiling. She liked the look but wanted something more permanent, so she installed three champagne gold curtain rods on a wall inside her home.

"Even when there aren't flowers on them, they still look pretty," Bethany says. "When it's covered in flowers, it looks even prettier. A functional piece of art."

Why does this border work so well? Form. The bold yucca anchors the composition as a focal point, while mounded and airy plants around it keep things balanced instead of busy. It's one of five simple planting design techniques in this article, and none of them require starting your garden over.
