Rickshaw: A possible solution to the commuters plight

Public transportation plays an important societal role as it facilitates the movement of people from workplaces, educational institutions, health facilities and other daily activities. Population growth has made transportation difficult in the Gambia and this has attracted the use of Rickshaws commonly called Batch cars by commuters for easy mobility. In the Gambia people are faced with formidable challenges accessing transportation leading to difficulty when commuting.

It is quite uncommon to see scores of people along highways at rush hours struggling to get a vehicle to work or school. These challenges cause many to shift their attention to Rickshaws. This shift provides a seamless experience for commuters making mobility easier , accessible , and faster. They have been one of the easiest modes of transportation in the Gambia. They help people to reach unreachable destinations as well creating jobs for many. It is highly beneficial for on-demand mobility. In addition it also helps meet commuters daily needs in the Gambia filling the gap in public transportation .

In our efforts to solve transportation problems in the Gambia, it is quite consequential to encourage more use of Rickshaws in order to make commuting easier and faster for people. Batch cars save a lot of time because it helps people reach their destination faster when the traffic is intense. This saves a lot of valuable time. Due to their physical nature they can make way and save a lot of time. To sum it all as there is an infrastructural development with roads it’s also necessary to incorporate Rickshaws in the transportation system for accessibility and on-demand mobility.
