Grain of Salt at the exhibition And The Spaces Between held .
In this project, I am encasing my archive of photos and paperwork from my adoption bag within salt crystals and building a house installation in which viewers can walk through. When I was first adopted, I was adopted under the pretext of disabled child with medical information saying I had hepatitis. I don't have hepatitis. So much of this history and paperwork must be taken with a grain of salt. Salt water is seen as something both very healing and corrosive. Paperwork is such a privilege, and yet it is so often copies of copies with name changes to be convenient. It is an exclusive, fragile archive. What does it mean when you can't even trust the paperwork that validated your existence within the system? Who are you? And who am I?
