Did you know a “friendly” baby squirrel is actually a squirrel in trouble?

When a mother squirrel doesn’t return to the nest, her babies will eventually leave out of desperation and hunger to find her. If they survive the fall to the ground, they will often approach humans as a final plea for help.

How to help:

Contain the baby in a secure container with a supplemental heat source (like a heating pad on low or a warm water bottle).

Don’t offer anything by mouth. No food or water (including formula or milk).

Contact a licensed wildlife rehabilitator immediately.
