The fact is that every ripe fig fruit contains the remains of fig wasps - the only pollinating insects for this species. Since the wasp belongs to the animal world, then a fig with digested remains inside is not exactly a plant. An extreme form of veganism is fruitarianism.

First figs of the season!

Did you know that not all figs require a wasp for pollination? It’s a big misconception.

While certain varieties of figs such as “caprifigs” rely on wasps to pollinate them, a symbiotic relationship which kills the wasp and absorbs its body into the fruit itself, the overwhelming majority of figs sold in America are self-pollinating common figs (like Brown Turkey) and do not require wasps.
