I get families asking about singing/guitar/piano lessons when their child is older all the time.

Mistake #2:
Going to just any music school or teacher.

Not all music learning is the same.
There’s a difference between keeping a child busy with songs… and actually building the brain for music — for musical comprehension, coordination, and true musicianship.

Research-based music learning is deeply intentional, carefully sequenced, and holistic. Every song, every movement, every interaction is designed to develop how a child hears, processes, and performs music. It’s not random. It’s not filler. It’s foundational work happening through play.

If those early years pass without that kind of input, you can’t just “make it up later” with traditional lessons. You can still learn — but the depth, ease, and fluency are vastly different.

This is why I do what I do.
Because children are capable of so much more than we expect — when they’re given the right musical environment at the right time.

What does thinking in music in real time require? And why is it so fundamental to learning an instrument?

What if children didn’t just follow along but were given the tools and experiences to actually understand what they hear and make musical decisions from it? Rather than relying on a page or person to direct what to do, what if they could independently make beautiful music with others?

They undoubtedly and absolutely can.
But most never get the chance.

I was not provided with any of the above during my formative years of learning music, and it felt crippling.

I am so grateful to have discovered a new way of learning, teaching, and performing music, and to work with a special group of children who exhibit such enthusiasm and a genuine love for learning music.

Learning how to teach a completely new and better way that is on an entirely different level has been overwhelming at times. There is just no end to the depth and vastness of MLT. But I cannot overstate how immensely transformative and freeing it has been, truly.
