4. Clean or replace HVAC filters so the system doesn't have to work harder than it needs to.
5. Walk around the outside and check gutters, downspouts, and the roofline for any debris or damage.
6. None of these take long, but they catch small issues before they turn into expensive ones.

How to tell if a foundation crack is cosmetic or structural — a simple check before you pay for an inspection.
Cosmetic cracks are usually thin (less than 1/8 inch), run in a straight vertical line, and don't change over time.
Structural cracks are wider, run diagonally or horizontally, and often get bigger over weeks or months.
If a door or window near the crack has started sticking, or the crack is stepping like stairs through the brick, that's usually a sign to take it seriously.
