HB 2528 passed in the Kansas Senate, 34 to 6 late on March 19th! Thank you to Senator Gossage for carrying the bill and providing accurate information about the bill to her Senate colleagues. Next steps include a conference committee composed of the chair, vice chair and ranking minority member of the House Health & Human Services Committee and the Senate Public Health & Welfare Committee to compromise on amendments to the bill made in each chamber. Then on to the Governor by March 25th. The Governor will have 10 days to sign the bill into law, do nothing and it will become law or veto the bill, requiring the House and the Senate to vote to overturn the veto with a 2/3 majority vote in each chamber.
Thank you to everyone for your help,encourage-
ment and prayers during this long process! Please continue until HB 2528 is across the finish line!! 🌻

I have been heartbroken to hear so many horror stories from Kansas nurses who have needlessly been punished by the Kansas State Board of Nursing (KSBN) for minor infractions such as clerical or technical glitches during the re-licensure process. We so desperately need good experienced nurses to care for Kansans! I have been blessed with the opportunity to represent my fellow nurses and to work with an awesome team to develop a bill (HB 2528) to right the wrongs nurses have experienced from KSBN. The bill addresses many concerns, protects nurses from retaliation and unwarranted permanent placement on databases. We made it past a big hurdle this week when the House passed HB 2528. The next step is getting it passed in the Senate and then to the Governor. This bill will not only help KSBN protect the public, but also ensure competent nurses are available to serve Kansans. It’s my honor to represent Kansas nurses in the legislature! 🌻
