In 2022, Justice Ketanji Brown Jackson became the first Black woman to serve on the United States Supreme Court.

Prior to her appointment, she served as a federal public defender, a member of the U.S. Sentencing Commission, a U.S. District Court judge, and a judge on the U.S. Court of Appeals for the D.C. Circuit.

Her confirmation marked a historic milestone in the nation’s highest court and reflects the continuing evolution of representation within the judiciary.

Justice Jackson’s career embodies a commitment to public service, constitutional interpretation, and equal justice under law.
