My lack of effort proves that these are easy to grow flowers

Purple: Monarda aka Bee Balm or horse mint. You’ll see it growing in bar ditches. Uniquely fragrant. 🐝 love it obviously. Start from seed in October. Grows through the winter with no effort and reseeds itself

Yellow: Cloth of Gold Yarrow aka Achillea filipendulina. 🐝 love it. 🦋 love its umbel shape. Drought resistant perennial. Start in October. Dries well.

If it’s not easy, don’t do it

These bottle boys are looking for new homes. 🍼🐐 Message me if interested.

Polled or disbudded. Can be registered but there are some new rules regarding DNA for bucks born after 1-1-24👇

Able to be weathered. Would make a perfect wether companion for a show doe. Because goats are like potato chips…you can’t have just one!

I was digging through seed packets this weekend with a friend. It inspired me to share the three most important things to know when planting a seed.

1) Are you planting a cool weather plant or a warm weather plant? Timing matters here. Seeds for cool weather plants should be planted 6-8 weeks before the first average fall frost or 6-8 weeks before the last average spring frost. For warm weather plants, don’t sow seed until nighttime air temperatures are in the 60s.

2) Direct sow seed or plant a seedling? Some plants don’t like their roots to be disturbed so direct seeding is the best option. This is also the easiest for beginner gardeners. To plant seedlings, plant the seed an additional 6-8 weeks before the start dates above. To start seeds indoors, I recommend heating mats for germination and a lighting setup.

3) Does the seed need light or dark to germinate? Seed packets will often give hints in their planting instructions. “Do not cover” or “needs light to germinate” means plant the seed on top of the soil and do not cover. Otherwise, a good rule of thumb for flowers is to cover with 1/8 inch of soil if the seed needs darkness to germinate.

I hope this is helpful. “Remember, anyone who thinks gardening begins in the spring and ends in the fall, is missing the best part of the year. Gardening begins in January, with the dream.”
