The Main Street Bridge in Wheeling in 1905. The building in the background to the left was a wholesale grocer in 1905, and is now the Boury Lofts apartment complex.

November 18, 1928 – The Mouse is in the House!
Mickey Mouse makes his debut in the sound cartoon Steamboat Willie. Earlier in 1928, he appeared in a couple of silent cartoons that were not distributed at the time. Minnie also made her debut in Steamboat Willie. Walt Disney provided all the voices. The whole cartoon is about 7.5 minutes and can be seen here: https://youtu.be/BBgghnQF6E4

Other Firsts in 1928:
Al Smith of NY becomes the first Catholic to be nominated for President by a major political party at the 1928 Democratic National Convention.
The world's first color television transmission is demonstrated.
Women's athletics debut at the 1928 Summer Olympics are held in Amsterdam.
The roaring MGM lion debuts at the beginning of the film White Shadows in the South Seas.
