Frank The Guitar Tech

The cool thing about having professional musicians as clients is they bring me cool things to work on that I might never otherwise see in real life. This guitar was a good example: I’d read about it in a magazine but wasn’t sure when I’d ever see one in real life. This one just needed a little ‘guitar whispering’ in its life to make it feel ‘right’ to its owner. It’s what I do!

Wiring? Sure, we do wiring! Here’s a before and after. I do tend to leave the wires long on pickup leads in a guitar cavity… short leads may make it look neater, but they leave no options for removal/repair/replacement should the need arise. I do shrink wrap the braided part to avoid accidental shorts. But it’s all about the soldering, folks!

Sometimes when you’re on the road, it’s not that easy to do a replacement, so you do a repair! I forgot to get a before pic, but the edge of the nut on the 5 string broke off! Luckily there was enough of the slot intact that the string doesn’t pop out. I borrowed some ‘bicarbonate’ ( baking soda) from Chef Dave Perry Flavor Savor Llc and combined with some Loctite super glue I was able to build up the edge of the nut again. A good fix until we get home and I can replace it. Cheers!
