Bringing home a new dog is one of life’s greatest joys—but it also comes with an adjustment period.
Whether your new companion comes from a shelter, rescue, or breeder, every dog needs time to learn that they’ve found their forever home.
The 3-3-3 Rule is a simple guideline to help set realistic expectations:
🐶 First 3 Days: Your dog is decompressing. Everything is new, so they may seem shy, overwhelmed, or unsure. Give them a quiet, safe place to settle in and let them adjust at their own pace.
🏡 First 3 Weeks: Your dog begins learning your routine and starts showing more of their personality. This is a great time to build trust and introduce positive, reward-based training.
❤️ First 3 Months: Your dog has built confidence, formed a strong bond with you, and truly begins to feel at home.
Every dog is different, and that’s okay! Some may adjust more quickly, while others need a little extra time. Patience, consistency, and understanding help create a lifelong partnership.
We’re also excited to partner with the Waushara County Animal Shelter (WCAS)! If you adopted a dog from WCAS anytime from 2024 to the present, you’ll receive 4 FREE training sessions with Ryan Mueller at Unleashed Manners after your dog has completed their 3-3-3 adjustment period. We want every family to have the tools they need for a successful, happy life together.

⭐️ Please join us in giving a warm welcome to our newest Board & Train client at Unleashed Manners: Kobi! ⭐️
Certified handsome boy? Absolutely. We think Kobi has earned that title. 😎🐾
Kobi is a sweet 6-year-old German Shepherd who has joined us for our Board & Train program to work on socialization around other dogs while polishing up all of his basic manners. He’s a smart guy who’s ready to put in the work!
When he’s not busy training with Ryan, Kobi is all about the cuddles and never misses an opportunity to dish out plenty of sweet kisses. 🥰💙
We can’t wait to help Kobi build confidence around other dogs, strengthen his skills, and continue growing into the confident, well-mannered gentleman we know he can be. We have a feeling this handsome boy is going to steal a few hearts while he’s here! 😍

🔥When the sidewalk is lava, train inside instead.🔥
1. Practice putting the leash on & taking it off only when your dog is calm. Overtime, they learn ‘calm behavior makes things happen.’
2. An open door doesn’t mean it’s okay to sprint through doors. Have them sit & wait until you tell them it’s okay to exit.
3. Teach your dog to ignore things like food or dropped items. This helps with impulse control in real life & keeps your dogs safe.
4. The doorbell doesn’t need to cause chaos. Teach your dog where to go & what to do when guests arrive.
5. Have your dog sit on a raised bed or place mat while you do normal house tasks. (This can be cooking, cleaning, or moving around the house).
6. The crate door opening does not mean explode out. Practice waiting calmly before releasing your dog. This builds self-control in all aspects of life & creates safe habits.
7. A part of basic dog obedience is getting ALL dogs to become familiar with a muzzle. For if your dog ever needs a muzzle (they’re injured or recovering from surgery) the muzzle will feel normal to them.
8. If your dog tends to have “selective hearing” when distractions are occurring, this is a prime opportunity to make coming back to you fun! Turn it into a game, by getting other family members involved! Call your dog, reward them, & practice in different rooms of the house!
9. In a neutral tone, use “Yes/Good” to tell your dog they did the right thing! (Correct choice = reward).
10. Brush your dog, trim their nails, give them a bath, clean their ears & teeth. Keep it calm & positive! Or use this time to thoroughly clean their dog bowls & kennels!
☀️ Heat waves are perfect for building better home habits — short sessions add up fast!

Behind every dog we train is a story — and ours is the reason Unleashed Manners exists.
We’re Ryan and Dani, dog owners, dog lovers, and the people behind Unleashed Manners LLC.
Years ago, Dani trusted a dog trainer she believed was reputable and trustworthy. After investing her savings into that program, she later learned that trainer had been charged with animal abuse. The experience was heartbreaking & left her questioning whether she could ever trust another dog trainer again.
Then Ryan entered the picture.
With years of professional dog training experience, Ryan was ready to step away from his corporate job and build something different. Together, we asked ourselves a simple question:
“What would dog training look like if transparency, safety, and dog welfare came first?”
That question became Unleashed Manners!
From day one, our mission has been to create a training experience where owners never have to wonder what is happening with their dog. We believe trust is earned through communication, education, and accountability — not promises.
That’s why:
•Ryan works with a limited number of dogs at a time, allowing each dog to receive individualized attention & care.
•We maintain open communication with owners throughout the entire training process AND after!
•Dogs are housed in Ruffland & Gunner kennels designed with safety and comfort in mind.
•Reactive dogs or dogs needing additional decompression have access to a dedicated training space designed to meet their individual needs.
•Safety is our top priority. Ryan works part-time at Berlin Veterinary Clinic, giving us direct access to evidence-based veterinary support, and both of us are certified in Canine First Aid & CPR.
•Dani continues to help teach Canine First Aid & CPR courses through the Winnegamie Dog Club because we believe educated owners create safer outcomes for dogs.
•Every training plan is customized. No two dogs, families, or lifestyles are exactly alike, and their training shouldn’t be either.
We know choosing a dog trainer can feel overwhelming. Dog training is an unregulated industry, and pet owners are often asked to place immense trust in someone they barely know.
We don’t take that responsibility lightly.
Our goal has never been to train the most dogs. Our goal is to help dogs and their families thrive while maintaining the highest standards of care, transparency, and canine welfare possible.
Thank you to every family who has trusted us with their dog. We are honored to be part of your journey and are committed to treat every dog as if they’re our own.
❤️ Ryan & Dani

✨ Client Success Story: GINGER! ✨
When Ginger first came to us, she struggled with confidence and could be timid around new people and other dogs. Her family wanted to help her feel more secure, comfortable, and successful in the world around her.
Today, Ginger is a completely different dog. 🐾
“She listens beautifully, behaves confidently in public, and approaches new people, dogs, and experiences with a calm, happy attitude. Watching her grow into the amazing companion she is today has been incredibly rewarding.”
“She truly has become the most amazing dog, and we’re so proud of how far she has come. None of this would have been possible without the dedication, patience, and expertise of Ryan at Unleashed Manners.”
Every dog deserves the opportunity to reach their full potential, and every owner deserves the confidence that comes with having a well-mannered companion by their side.
Thank you, Ginger’s family, for trusting us with her journey. We’re so proud of everything she’s accomplished! 🥹
If you’re wondering whether your dog can make progress too—the answer is YES! With the right guidance, patience, and training plan, amazing transformations are possible! ♥️

Did you know that most dog bites involving children happen in their own home and are caused by the family’s own dog?
Dogs are loyal, loving companions and can be wonderful with children. But every dog, regardless of breed, size, or temperament, has the potential to bite if they feel scared, stressed, startled, or uncomfortable.
The good news? Many bites are preventable through education, supervision, and teaching children how to respectfully interact with dogs.
Here are a few of the most important lessons every family should know:
🐶 Never leave young children and dogs unsupervised.
Even the gentlest dog can react unexpectedly. Adult supervision is the best way to prevent accidents and ensure positive interactions.
🐶 Teach children to respect a dog’s space.
Dogs need a safe place to rest and decompress. Teach children not to bother a dog while they’re sleeping, eating, chewing a toy, or resting in their designated safe space.
🐶 No hugs, roughhousing, or face-to-face interactions.
Many dogs do not enjoy being hugged, having their ears or tails pulled, or having a child’s face close to theirs. What looks cute in a photo can sometimes make a dog uncomfortable.
🐶 Help children learn dog body language.
A relaxed dog typically has a loose body, soft expression, and relaxed tail wag. Signs a dog may be stressed include lip licking, yawning, turning away, growling, showing teeth, a tucked tail, flattened ears, stiff posture, or trying to move away.
🐶 Teach calm, gentle interactions.
Encourage children to pet dogs gently on the chest, shoulders, or back. Running, screaming, grabbing, or rough play can overwhelm even a well-behaved dog.
🐶 Strange dogs require extra caution.
Children should never approach a dog without first asking the owner for permission. If permission is given, they should approach slowly and calmly and allow the dog to sniff them before petting.
Dogs and children can have incredible lifelong friendships when we teach both sides how to succeed. Safety isn’t about fear—it’s about understanding, respect, and creating positive experiences for everyone involved.
❤️ The best way to prevent a dog bite is through education. If you found this helpful, please share it with other dog families and parents.
Every family deserves a safe, happy bond between their kids and dogs. If you need guidance with training, boundaries, or dog behavior, contact Unleashed Manners Dog Training—we’re here to help.
