🌉🔧 It’s Almost Time to “Close the Gap”! ⛴️
With the center span lift set to begin tomorrow morning, here are a few important reminders:
⛴️ Ferry Service
• The ferry will NOT operate on Friday.
• Service returns to the normal schedule on Saturday.
🚫 Front Street / Parking
• A No Parking order remains in place on Front Street.
• The contractor will be paving Iowa 26 and needs access via Front Street for ready mix trucks — please keep the road clear.
🚤 River Traffic
• The river will be closed in and around the construction area from 6:00 AM to 6:00 PM.
• Boaters can use the Big Slough Landing and travel north.
• Traveling south through the sloughs may be difficult due to water levels and other possible obstacles.
🏗️ Tomorrow’s Construction Timeline
• Kraemer plans to start moving the center section into position around 6:00 AM.
• Once aligned and cables are connected, the lift could take about 4 hours.
• After the lift, crews will spend several more hours installing bolts to secure the span.
📺 Watch Live
You can watch the lift happen on the project livestream:

We finished 45th out of 85 boats at the Masters Walleye Circuit on Lake Winnebago.
Obviously we were hoping for better, but we just couldn't find the "big" fish in the lake - something that's likely related to the lake not having any size restrictions or slot limits on walleye.
And man... the amount of drum (aka sheepshead) in this lake is insanely frustrating. We probably caught 10-20x more of them than walleye.
We were on a decent bite the day before the tournament, but as usual for me, that bite was gone the next morning. We did everything from snap jigging shallow water, scoping, pulling cranks, slip bobber, and pulling spinners. We got 5 each day, and while we didn't throw back a lot of weight (no cull tournament), we just never saw those 20+" walleye. If I had to take a guess, they were at the south end of the lake or up the river in one of the smaller lakes.
Oh well. Time to look ahead to the next Cedar Valley Walleye Club tournament on Pool 9 at the end of June. Should be a great bite!

We took 6th at Storm Lake on Saturday. Tough day for us, as we were expecting a much bigger bag. We only had 2 hours to practice the night before, as I had been traveling to CA for work all week.
Fun tournament. Now it's time to focus on Winnebago for MWC this weekend.

I had a few hours on the Mississippi to mess around with the WalleyeX Predators. The size 6s work well on the majority of wing dams, and they're pretty good when trolled too!
5 more days until the Cedar Valley Walleye Club tournament on Storm Lake. Then it's off to Oshkosh, WI to practice for the Masters Walleye Circuit tournament on Lake Winnebago.
I hope everyone had a safe and enjoyable Memorial Day.
