Rhode Island Term Limits

George Mason said it in 1788. It's still true today. The surest way to keep a legislator accountable is to make sure they have to come home — and live under the laws they passed. The principle is simple: lawmakers who have to return home govern differently than ones who never leave.

It is time to term limit Congress and restore this simple concept.

Congress has become the world's most expensive nursing home, and American taxpayers are paying the bill. Before you say just age limits — yes, they'd clear out the oldest faces which may be part of the solution, but that misses a big part of the problem Congress currently faces. There is a type of retirement that has nothing to do with age — it's comfort.

It's politicians who figured out the gig, got hooked on the perks, and quietly stopped governing while loudly campaigning on the same broken promises year after year. Promises their constituents desperately want solved — and that they have no intention of fixing. Term limits change that.

Together, the states can do something not even Congress can do alone.

Article V of the Constitution allows 2/3 of states to call a convention and propose an amendment, and 3/4 of states then vote to ratify it into law.
