Huge thanks to Enterprise Community Partners for inviting GCC’s Adaptation Director Joshua Saks to deliver keynote remarks at the kickoff session of the Enterprise Mid-Atlantic Climate Resilience Academy yesterday. Speaking to an audience of affordable housing owners, operators and developers from across the Mid-Atlantic region, Josh highlighted the ways climate change is changing the risk of flooding, heatwaves, and extreme weather, and encouraged housing leaders to think of themselves as “PRE-sponders” who can help people and communities prepare for and manage an increasingly perilous climate. “You build the homes for people who need them most,” said Saks. “As climate change makes the world increasingly risky, you provide people with something that every person deserves -- a safe place to call home.”

NEW ANALYSIS: Health care delivery organizations can help the U.S. meet emissions targets by advancing efforts to decarbonize the electricity that is consumed at their facilities and used to produce thousands of products and services in their supply chains, according to a new report from the Georgetown Climate Center. “Decarbonizing Health Care: Clean Energy Policy Options” focuses on two tracks of energy policies that can help health care delivery organizations meet ambitious emissions targets: policies that reduce direct emissions at their facilities and policies that apply more broadly to the U.S. electric power and commercial buildings sectors. “With a sustained and integrated effort, the health care sector has an opportunity to reduce its own greenhouse gas footprint, improve health and welfare for local communities, and provide leadership for the broader clean energy transition in the U.S. economy,” said GCC’s Joe Kruger.
