Are We Ready to Get Out of Students' Way?

Just wrapped a conversation with Jeremy Shorr (Apple Distinguished Educator, "Just Some Guy From Ohio") that shifted my entire perspective.

The question that hit me: Are we preparing students for a world that exists—or empowering them to create the world that should exist?

Three insights I can't stop thinking about:
1. Disruption ≠ Agitation: One moves education forward. The other just makes noise.
2. AI exposed our courage problem. The real challenge isn't technology—it's whether we trust teachers and students enough to use it well.
3. Modeling mistakes > Modeling perfection Students need human teachers who show what growth looks like, not flawless ones.
The line that stopped me: "The future of education is student-powered and student-led. We need to get out of the way and let them build it."

This isn't about lowering standards. It's about raising our trust.

My question for you: In an era of AI and rapid change, are we empowering students to lead—or just teaching them to comply?

Black in Education 2026 | Closing
February may end.

But Black history, brilliance, and impact in education do not.

We are Black all year.

We are educators all year.

We are builders, truth-tellers, innovators, and legacy carriers all year.

Black in Education is not a moment.
It is a movement.
It is a mindset.
It is a lifelong commitment.

At Global Education Concierge, we remain rooted in honoring our past, strengthening our present, and designing the future of learning — globally and unapologetically.

Thank you for walking with us this month.
Thank you for remembering.
Thank you for believing.
Thank you for building.

The work continues.

DAY 27 – The New Threat

The new threat to Black history
is not only bans.
It is erasure.
Of pain.
Of struggle.
Of sacrifice.
Of success.
We must teach.
We must preserve.
We must tell the truth.

DAY 24 – Hidden History | The Great Dismal Swamp

Being raised in Virginia teaches you the power of water.

But not just water as geography.

Water as memory.

Water as passage.

Water as refuge.

The Great Dismal Swamp was once a place of escape for enslaved Africans.

A maroon community.

A hiding place.
A corridor of resistance.
People lived there.
Built lives there.
Organized there.
Survived there.

You can feel the ancestors when you stand near it.

You can sense their presence.

You can hear the whispers:
Keep going.

You come from survivors.
You come from brilliance.
This history isn’t abstract.

It’s living.
It’s breathing.
It’s in us.
