As a pharmacist, I’m breaking down the ingredients, mechanisms, and what the research actually says, unfiltered.
The FDA just approved Utebzi, the first oral carbapenem antibiotic in the U.S. and the big takeaway is that some patients may have an oral option when they otherwise might need IV antibiotics.
Less IV therapy could mean fewer infusion barriers, less hospital time for some patients, and more flexibility when culture results show it’s appropriate.
Still not for every UTI (we don’t need antibiotic resistance)
I have had 100s if not 1000s of scenarios like this when it’s a struggle to get a date of birth whether for a pet or for even the patient picking up a prescription.
