š The Old Apple Trees
Some of the oldest residents at Fred Burr Canyon Ranch donāt live in the house, the barn, or the bunkhouse.
They stand quietly in the orchard.
For more than 60 years, these old apple trees have weathered Montana winters, summer heat, windstorms, and everything in between. Yet each year, they wake up, leaf out, and do what theyāve always doneāprovide.
The birds fill their branches with song. Turkeys wander beneath them searching for fallen fruit. Deer stop by for a snack. Even the elk and moose know exactly where to find a sweet apple when the season is right.
Some years the harvest is abundant. Some years itās a little lighter. The old trees donāt seem too concerned either way.
What makes them special isnāt just the apples. Itās the generations theyāve quietly supported. Wildlife, ranch life, and countless memories have all gathered beneath their branches.
In a world that seems to move a little faster every year, these old trees remind us that some of the best things take decades to grow.
Rooted in our land. Part of our story. ā¤ļøšš³

Every spring, the poppies return.
Iāve never heard the full story of how they first arrived here, but theyāve been part of this ranch for longer than many can remember. For a few short weeks each year, bright red blooms appear across the fields, catching your eye from hundreds of yards away and reminding you to slow down for a moment.
Over the years, neighbors and visitors have stopped by asking if they could transplant a few. Today, descendants of these ranch poppies can be found blooming in other corners of the Bitterroot Valley, carrying a little piece of this place with them.
Itās one of those traditions that wasnāt planned, wasnāt advertised, and somehow became part of the story anyway.
Nature has a funny way of doing that. ā¤ļø
What signs of spring do you look forward to each year?

Rainy days on the last day of May.
Thereās something special about a gentle Montana rain. The smell of fresh pine, the sound of raindrops on the leaves, the gravel road glistening, and the whole ranch slowing down for a moment.
Days like this are a reminder that not every beautiful day comes with sunshine.
Such a treat to be here and enjoy it all.
Whatās your favorite thing about a rainy day? āš²
Lazy Sunday mornings done right. āš„š¾
Gabby claimed her spot by the fire, ear scratches are in full effect, coffee is working its magic, and now itās about time for the roar of the engines at the Indianapolis 500. From quiet Montana mornings to 230 mph chaos⦠thatās a pretty good way to spend a Sunday.
Who are you rooting for today? š

āBeautiful sunset tucked in between rainstorms. Looking west and catching the last light of the day across the canyon. Montana always knows how to put on a show.ā

Coffeeās hot.
The clouds are rolling through the canyon.
The geese are out stretching their legs, the wood ducks are making their rounds, and the turkeys have decided today is apparently parade day. Even the deer showed up for the morning meeting.
Just another postcard morning at Fred Burr Canyon Ranch. Montana always knows how to put on a show. š¦šŖ暦āļø
Storm clouds rolling over the canyon, water moving through the ditch, and then one of the ranchās quiet night shift supervisors makes an appearance. š¦
Weāve been spotting this gray owl around the irrigation ditches lately, and itās always a treat when they decide to stick around long enough for a visit. One second perfectly hidden⦠the next airborne and disappearing back into the trees like a ghost. Mother Nature always knows how to steal the show around here.
One of the best parts of ranch life is you never quite know whatās waiting around the next corner.

Sometimes Mother Nature reminds you what really matters.
Yesterdayās storm rolled through the ranch with heavy wind, rain, dark skies, and then⦠this happened. The rainbow hung out for nearly an hour and the colors were unbelievably bright. One of those moments where everything simply stops for a second.
People in real estate always talk about ācurb appeal.ā
And sure⦠curb appeal matters.
But after standing in this doorway watching this view for more than 30 years, Iāve realized something else matters a whole lot more: what you experience once youāre actually here.
Every window at Fred Burr Canyon Ranch seems to tell a different story depending on the weather, the season, the wildlife, the light, or the sky. Yesterday, Mother Nature decided to show off a little.
And honestly⦠we were perfectly okay with that. š

Spring in the Bitterroot hits a little different. šæāļø
Spent part of the day walking the ranch, checking irrigation flow, opening gates, and making sure the water is getting where it needs to go. One of the best parts of ranch life is slowing down for a second and realizing this is the āofficeā for the day.
The trees are waking up, the grass is turning deep green, the ponds are filling, and the mountains still have a little reminder of winter hanging on in the distance. Hard to beat a spring view like this. š²šļøš§
Whatās your favorite sign that spring has officially arrived?

Well⦠the radiant heat pump decided it needed a break. No hot water at the main house for a bit. Thankfully, nothing a quick jaunt down to the cabin for a shower couldnāt solve. Thatās just Montana ranch life sometimes. š
Huge thank you to McLaren HVAC out of Victor for jumping in and getting things handled quickly. The amazing part? They actually had the parts in stock and were ready to go. That matters out here.
