When Love Refuses to Accept Limits

Pedro was born with cerebral palsy.
An IRONMAN triathlon was never supposed to be possible.

3.8 km of swimming.
180 km of cycling.
42.2 km of running.

For most people, it’s unthinkable.
For Pedro, it was “impossible.”

But Miguel, his brother, refused to let that word be the ending.

In 2019, two brothers from Oeiras, Portugal, began a journey that would test the limits of the body — and redefine the limits of the human spirit.

Pedro had the dream.
Miguel carried the weight.

With no adapted equipment, they trained anyway.
With obstacles everywhere, they moved forward anyway.

What started as a dream became a mission: Iron Brothers.

With time, support, and relentless discipline, they completed the IRONMAN 70.3 in Cascais.
Then something historic happened.

They became the first European duo to complete a full IRONMAN within the time limit.
The fifth duo in the world to ever do it.
And in 2022, in Hamburg, they set a world record, becoming the first duo outside the U.S. to finish the race.

This isn’t a story about sport.
It’s a story about love that refuses excuses.
About brotherhood that outpaces biology.
About purpose that carries what strength alone cannot.

Pedro reminds us that limitation does not define destiny.
Miguel proves that greatness is service to someone you love.

Together, they show us this truth:
When courage and commitment walk side by side, dreams don’t disappear — they transform.

TIMER & HELPER TEAMS NEEDED: Chip-2-Chip Race Timing is looking for Timers/Helper Teams to time & setup for races. These are usually running races. Most races are on Saturday mornings; however, we do have Friday night races & some Sunday races. Events during the week are timed by me.

Ideally, a team, couple or partners. Must be familiar with laptops & comfortable with learning new software. Must learn to time using The Race Director software & Mylaps Timing and Scoring is the software for recording the runners’ times & passing the times through to The Race Director. You must be able to cheer for the runners! It is paramount to our success!

If you are the helper only, you must know how to set up all the equipment, make sure it is working properly, start the clock, etc. The Timer must have the same knowledge as the helper & know how to use The Race Director & Mylaps Timing & Scoring. Compensation is done accordingly. The Timer is wholely responsible for the success of the event & for checking all work of the helper!

You will learn at my home which takes as long until you are comfortable with the timing. The timer will also need to time 5 races with me or one of my seasoned Timers to show us you are capable and proactively on top of any issues. I will ask questions and possibly set up something wrong as a test. Timers must know how to fix problems, add an age group, add an Overall or Masters category, link divisions, set up a new race in The Race Director, Mylaps Timing & Scoring & check the race.

As the owner, I have the event ready for you; however, you must know how to set up a race as well. On race day, the equipment must be tested with a bib at the event. Any bib can be used, the Event Coordinator can supply or ask a runner to walk over the mats and listen for the beep. You have control over the volume from T & S. You must pass the times through & make sure you are recording. This is not hard! However, it requires complete accuracy & knowledge is the key! You must know how to setup an event in The Race Director or copy the event that is not cooperating. You must know how to fix a glitch or restart the decoders/Mylaps boxes if they are not recording.

Please call me if you are interested and have a partner to make a team. Teams are best, runners are great, admins with extensive computer knowledge, programmers, etc. All are great!

I live in Van Alstyne, Texas, and the equipment must be picked up on Friday nights. Please do not respond if you live over 30- 60 minutes away. The compensation will be discussed on the phone or in person. You will be paid the day of the event after the race is completed. We will also discuss mileage. Please call me at 214-906-4727. Email is not conducive to this type of work. Thank You!
