Amie Akers - Visual Storyteller

I revisit this wedding over and over again.
I’ll never forget this bride getting her photos and saying, “You didn’t take photos… you made art.”
And honestly… that’s never left me.
Because that’s always been the goal.
Not just to document a day—
but to create something that feels like it could live forever.
I want my clients to have memories that don’t just bring them back…
but stop them in their tracks.
Full of emotion.
And undeniably beautiful.
I’ve spent years teaching myself editing, chasing light, playing with depth and feeling—
and I still struggle to stay in one lane.
Because no two stories should ever look the same.
And truthfully… that’s the fun of it.

Some of the most meaningful photos you will ever have are the ones taken before life looks “put together.”
A friend texted me a couple days ago with photos of her living room still under construction—part of what will soon be their new home, built by her and her husband with so much love.
Her message said, “Not me wanting a photo shoot here in the house like this right now.”
And the moment she said that… my mind immediately went back to this session.
A family in the middle of their everyday life. Kids running barefoot through the yard. A baby being cuddled in the dining room. Little ones peeking out the window. A swing in the backyard. A favorite cup in the dishwasher. Dad’s sunglasses left on the counter.
None of it perfectly styled.
None of it staged.
But every bit of it part of their story.
Maybe these aren’t always the photos meant for big frames on the wall, but someday these little ones will look back and say things like…
“I remember that windmill in our backyard when I was little.”
“I remember watching Mom cuddle our baby brother in the dining room while the rest of us ran through the house being crazy.”
“Look at our dishwasher—I remember that cup, it was my favorite.”
“Look at Dad’s sunglasses on the counter. He always wore those.”
“I loved that swing in the front yard.”
“I remember sharing a room with my brother.”
Maybe sessions like this aren’t on everyone’s bucket list.
But looking back someday, would you rather remember sitting in dressy clothes smiling at the camera…
or remember what life actually felt like in that season?
Neither is wrong.
But I do believe one tells so much more of the story. ✨

Even though spring is just getting started here in Charlotte and everything isn’t quite green yet, we are so lucky to have the tall evergreens standing strong as the perfect backdrop for maternity sessions like this. 🌲
There’s something about those deep greens against a growing belly that feels steady… timeless… grounding.
One day, this little one will be all grown.
Running. Driving. Dreaming big dreams.
And they’ll look back at these images — themselves tucked safely in their mama’s tummy — and see the way they were loved before they were even born.
That’s the magic of maternity photos.
They aren’t just for now.
They’re for the “remember when” years. 🤍
I’m new to North Carolina and currently offering discounted “get to know me” rates as I build my Charlotte family of clients. I would absolutely love to photograph your story — maternity, newborn, or family.
Let’s capture the days you’ll want to hold onto forever.
Message me for details. ✨
