As election season approaches, here is a thought to consider. Local campaigns often receive significant private donations, even in smaller municipal elections like Cottleville with relatively modest voter turnout. Everyone has the right to support the candidates and causes they believe in, and those choices deserve respect. At the same time, it may be worth reflecting on how some of our community giving might also support long-term investments in the next generation—such as college costs, higher education and service opportunities. The Missouri Ethics Commission provides a publicly searchable database of private donors for Cottleville elections, which can offer helpful perspective. AmeriCorps is one meaningful avenue, and we also have local options such as "Giving to SCC" (https://www.stchas.edu/workforce-community/give-to-scc/) and the "Lindenwood Fund" (https://www.lindenwood.edu/giving/giving-opportunities/lindenwood-fund/).

Thoughtful, constructive engagement moves us forward, while anonymous or unproductive social media noise only creates confusion and distracts from real progress.
