In THE PIANO, it’s 1851 and Ada has never spoken a word since the age of six and only communicates through music and her daughter, Flora. An arranged marriage forces her to leave her native Scotland with her daughter and her piano. Her destination is New Zealand, where she is awaited by Stewart, a farmer with whom she has nothing in common. Her suffering only gets worse when her husband sells the piano to his neighbor George. But Ada will find a way to continue playing in exchange for giving George lessons.

With Oscar-winning performances from Holly Hunter and Anna Paquin, as well as unforgettable turns from Harvey Keitel and the late, great Sam Neill, this new 4K remaster of Jane Campion’s PIANO is a must-see when it opens Friday, July 24, at the Uptown: siff.info/thepianofb.

“He was radiating peace, beaming love. He didn’t seem to care about anything. He was just gently, gracefully there – but now he isn’t. Thank you for everything Sam. I miss you.” —Jane Campion about Sam Neill for The Guardian.

It’s no secret that the MADDIE’S SECRET screenings with John Early were as sweet and delightful as his eponymous character. 💖
