First use of our new oscillating belt and spindle sander! So much easier to use and is already helping us save some time!

In January I posted my first ever attempt at using a lathe. It went semi viral on multiple platforms and well the comments were mostly rude.

From “you’re going to injure yourself” to “maybe you should take classes” even a few “I could do better with my eyes closed” and so on (even some about my mouth breathing and my gender *yes multiple argued with me about being a woman*)

As a brand new person to wood working who has learned everyone via videos on the internet and a few in person demos it was a hard pill to swallow.

I was brave enough to post my failures and well I learned just how cruel social media can be.

I will be honest I’ve been pretty scared to jump back on the lathe even though I’ve done much more research and feel more confident in it.

HOWEVER for my birthday my wife got us a pen turning class, so there all of you men who said take a class, we finally have! We learned a lot and we both very successfully used the lathe and turned ourselves some beautiful pens!

Onward and upward and a new found love for turning so there will be more videos. More failures because I don’t shy away from them. More learning and growth will be had!

To those that gave actual useful feedback and even messaged me, thank you! Keep that up! To the others, maybe don’t be so negative just because you are on the internet and feel so brave. Last message if you made it here: be you, be brave, and remember you trying and failing isn’t the end, keep learning and keep trying!
