The God Who Never Minted a Coin

On the madness of money, the myth of the mega-church, and why the One who made the stars never made a banknote.

The Cross Above the Coins

"You cannot serve both God and money." β€” Matthew 6:24

Walk through any city in America and you will see two truths side by side, impossible to ignore. On one corner, a human being sleeps beneath cardboard, hungry, invisible, forgotten. On the next block, a cathedral of glass and steel rises β€” a "worship center" with parking structures, coffee bars, LED screens the size of billboards, and a budget that could feed a village for a decade. The same city. The same God. Two completely different religions. One worships the Crucified. The other worships the coin.

I do not write this with bitterness. I write it with grief. Because I have seen what money does to souls. I have seen the homeless man reduced to a statistic while the wealthy man is elevated to a saint. I have seen families torn apart over inheritances. I have seen friendships dissolve when one person succeeds and another does not. I have seen churches transform from houses of prayer into houses of commerce, where the offering plate is heavier than the cross, and where the pastor's jet is justified by "evangelistic reach." And I have seen the quiet, devastating truth that Scripture warned us about from the very beginning: money is not neutral. It is a test. And most of us are failing it.

There is a peculiar sorrow in watching a people who claim the Name turn their backs on the very commandments they profess to hold dear. In the American South, where church steeples rise from nearly every horizon and Scripture adorns courthouse walls, a quiet crisis of conscience is unfolding. And it demands that those who truly believe ask themselves a hard question: Are we living the Word, or merely displaying it?

Dear Heavenly Father,

I come before you with a heavy heart, seeking the strength to release those who have set themselves against me. I lift up my enemies to you-not in judgment, but in the hope of their transformation.

I pray for their awakening. Let your light pe*****te the shadows of their hearts. If they are walking in darkness or driven by 'evil ways,' I ask that they be confronted by your truth. May they be exposed-not for the sake of shame, but so that the roots of their bitterness, trauma, or malice can be pulled into the light for true healing.

I pray for their peace. Grant them the kind of peace that the world cannot give-a peace so profound that it removes the need for conflict, ego, and harm. Fill the voids in their spirit with a love that makes their current path unthinkable.

I pray for their forgiveness. I ask that you forgive their sins and the debts they owe to righteousness. Soften my own heart so that I may let go of the desire for retaliation, trusting that you are the ultimate judge and restorer of balance.

Lead them toward a path of repentance and grace, and in doing so, grant me the freedom to move forward in light and love.In Jesus’s name I pray. πŸ™

Amen.
