Are short goalkeepers a thing of the past? 🛑🧤

Over my 14 years of coaching within the U.S. youth soccer ecosystem, I have seen far too many coaches rely on subjective laziness. They look at a young player and say, "You’re too short to play the position."

They completely forget to be objective. If height was the only metric that mattered, legends like Iker Casillas (who stood at 6'0" when he captained Spain to a World Cup victory) or the legendary Jorge Campos at 5'7" would have been cut before they ever reached their peak.

As Coach Sam points out in the clip below, we've faced physically imposing teams that look intimidating on paper, but when the whistle blows, it comes down to one thing: Mentality.

At FCSC, we don't discard talent based on a tape measure. We look for heart, positioning, and grit.
