It is so wonderful to see what alumni are doing after graduating!

When Laurel & Pearl owner Mandy decided to open a bakery in Tyler, she assumed she would have to make a trek to Dallas several times a week to attend culinary school in pastry. Little did she know at that time that Tyler’s own TJC had just started a new culinary program the prior semester and it included a pastry track! She set up a meeting with the program director, Chef Larry Matson, and started classes that fall.

The program taught her not only the basics of French pastry, but also was invaluable in teaching her the business basics of owning and operating a food service business.

TJC is one of the largest community colleges in Texas with an enrollment of 15,757 students. It ranks within the top 20% of community colleges in Texas. The TJC experience includes rigorous academics, 66 national championships in athletics, stellar fine and performing arts programs, modern residential facilities, and organizations and clubs that reflect student diversity.

Tyler is truly blessed to have such an amazing community college in our midst.

We love LOCAL and we LOVE TJC!
