This summer Governor Jerry Brown tried to deal with California’s housing shortfall and expand construction of affordable housing by loosening California Environmental Quality Act (CEQA) requirements. The concept was to allow for fast track approvals and reduce the cost of development. Unfortunately, it appears Brown’s initiative is now dead due to opposition from two sources: labor unions and NIMBYs. Robert Stewart Architects colaborated with Jonathan, the owner of Da Vinci Ice Cream, to get the application for their first store approved by LA County Health Department on May 31st. Congratulations Jonathan!
