Happy Mother's Day
Today is a day to celebrate mothers, the love they share, the magic the create, and the joy they bring to our lives.
My mother, Belinda GarDella, was murdered 43 years ago. That is 43 missed Mother's Days & still no justice.
I lost my mother when I was only 18 years old. I would give anything to have the chance to spend the day with her just one more time.
We are still fighting for her and ask that you keep her and our family in your thoughts today. Our beautiful mother deserves justice.
Appreciate the time you have with your mother today. Tell her how much you love her and cherish the memories you make. Never take it for granted.
Have a blessed day.

“A warrior believes in an end she can’t see and fights for it. A warrior never gives up. A warrior fights for those weaker than herself. It sounds like motherhood to me.”
— Kristin Hannah, The Four Winds
Motherhood is not one story.
It is a thousand different battles… some seen, many carried in silence.
Today…
To the mothers and children who are grieving
To the ones missing their children
To the children missing their mothers
To those navigating distance, complicated love, or silence
To the women learning how to mother themselves
I may never fully understand your pain…
but I will stand with you.
I will hold your hand.
I will walk through the fire of grief, of injustice, of unanswered questions beside you.
You are not alone.
And to those celebrating today holding your babies and family close, feeling the fullness of love this space holds you too.
Motherhood is resilience.
It is sacrifice.
It is hope, even when you cannot yet see the ending.
It is, in every sense of the word… a warrior’s heart.

Carolyn Merricks was a 28-year-old single mother living in St. Petersburg, Florida in the early 1980s. She had grown up in Bartow and later moved to the St. Petersburg area, where she was raising her young son and working to build a better life. Friends described her as outgoing, hardworking, and devoted to her child.
For a time, Carolyn worked at the Suncoast Pl***oy Club as a server, where employees were known as “Pl***oy Bunnies.” At the club she used the nickname “Bunny Chandra.” In 1983 she was named Suncoast Pl***oy Bunny of the Year, an honor that even earned her a trip to Los Angeles. Later she left the club and began working as a cocktail waitress at the Tierra Verde Yacht Club.
In the summer of 1984, something went terribly wrong. When Carolyn’s family could not reach her, they went to check on her at her St. Petersburg apartment. Inside the apartment they discovered a horrifying scene. Carolyn had been stabbed to death. Investigators said there were clear signs of a struggle, suggesting she fought for her life.
Police quickly began investigating the murder, questioning people in Carolyn’s life, including friends, coworkers, and others who may have known her. Because there were no clear signs of forced entry, investigators believed she may have known the person who attacked her or allowed them into her home.
Despite the investigation, detectives were unable to identify a suspect at the time. The crime did not appear to be a robbery, which made the motive even more unclear. Over the years, the case gradually went cold, leaving Carolyn’s family without answers and a young son growing up without his mother.
Decades later, the murder of Carolyn Merricks remains unsolved. Modern investigators have revisited the case in hopes that advances in forensic science, including new DNA technology and genetic genealogy, could eventually identify the person responsible.
Anyone with information about the murder of Carolyn Merricks is urged to contact the St. Petersburg Police Department at 727-893-7780 or St. Petersburg Police Tip Line at 727-893-7780. Even the smallest detail could help investigators finally bring answers to Carolyn’s family.
