75 years of the Admiral Twin Drive In!! It reopens this Friday 🎥🍿
For 75 years, this drive-in theater has been a cultural mainstay in Tulsa. 🍿✨
Originally opening as “The Modernaire” in 1951, the drive-in changed its name to the Admiral Twin in 1952 and added a second screen that same year. Its grit and charm became part of movie history when The Outsiders filmed a scene at the theater in 1983.
With the city celebrating Route 66’s centennial this year, it’s the perfect time to catch a double feature under a gorgeous Oklahoma sunset at this Route 66 landmark.
The theater is celebrating its anniversary on May 29 with a screening of “The Outsiders” and “Cool Hand Luke,” special commemorative merch, and a tie-in with the Route 66 Capitol Cruise May 30.
“With all the cars coming in for the Route 66 Capitol Cruise event, we think people might want to show off their vehicles. We’re planning to host a car show where anyone interested can bring their car and display it,” owner Blake Smith told TulsaPeople Magazine.
🚗🌙 The Admiral Twin opens its 75th season on April 3, 2026, and runs through Halloween.
