Flint Physiotherapy
This story isn’t meant to make fun of anyone living with dementia. If anything, it’s meant to shed light on how real and unpredictable these situations can be for caregivers, staff, therapists, and families every single day. Sometimes you have to navigate difficult moments with patience, empathy… and occasionally laugh at the chaos afterward. Dementia is heartbreaking, confusing, and very real, and today was definitely one for the books.
Feeling unsteady? Try these three simple exercises at the kitchen sink to build better balance and control:
1️⃣ Reach Downs – A bodyweight deadlift to build posterior chain strength and hip control. Move slowly and avoid hitting your head on the counter in front of you.
2️⃣ Single Leg Balance – Face sideways to the sink and gently rest your hip against the counter for support. Avoid using your hands. Balance starts in the core and hips, not your grip.
3️⃣ Side Kicks – From the same position, swing your opposite leg out to the side and back without putting it down between reps. This challenges dynamic balance and hip strength.
These aren’t just “senior exercises” — they’re smart training tools to help you feel more stable and confident during everyday movement.
