π–π‘πšπ 𝐒𝐟 𝐭𝐑𝐞 𝐣𝐨𝐛𝐬 𝐧𝐞𝐯𝐞𝐫 𝐜𝐨𝐦𝐞 π›πšπœπ€?

Two interesting things happened last night.

1. I listened to the State of the Union and heard the president talking about how great the job market is.

β€œπ‘€π‘œπ‘Ÿπ‘’ π΄π‘šπ‘’π‘Ÿπ‘–π‘π‘Žπ‘›π‘  π‘Žπ‘Ÿπ‘’ π‘€π‘œπ‘Ÿπ‘˜π‘–π‘›π‘” π‘‘π‘œπ‘‘π‘Žπ‘¦ π‘‘β„Žπ‘Žπ‘› π‘Žπ‘‘ π‘Žπ‘›π‘¦ π‘‘π‘–π‘šπ‘’ 𝑖𝑛 π‘‘β„Žπ‘’ β„Žπ‘–π‘ π‘‘π‘œπ‘Ÿπ‘¦ π‘œπ‘“ π‘œπ‘’π‘Ÿ π‘π‘œπ‘’π‘›π‘‘π‘Ÿπ‘¦," π‘‡π‘Ÿπ‘’π‘šπ‘ π‘ π‘Žπ‘–π‘‘.

I fact checked it. It's true. So, the issue now is not "are there jobs" but "what are the jobs?" Spend some time on LinkedIn, and you'll see despair and a changed job market where the rules have changed, the jobs have changed, and the expectations have changed. Every single one of us has connections on LinkedIn that have spent a year or more looking for work.

2. I spent some time last night talking with a friend who is cashing out. He's selling his house, buying an RV, and going to live as a digital nomad. After maybe 18 months of unemployment, he's "β„Žπ‘’π‘Žπ‘‘π‘–π‘›π‘” π‘Šπ‘’π‘ π‘‘ π‘π‘’π‘π‘Žπ‘’π‘ π‘’ β„Žπ‘’ π‘‘β„Žπ‘œπ‘’π‘”β„Žπ‘‘ π‘‘β„Žπ‘Žπ‘‘ π‘‘β„Žπ‘’ π‘β„Žπ‘Žπ‘›π‘”π‘’ π‘€π‘œπ‘’π‘™π‘‘ π‘‘π‘œ β„Žπ‘–π‘š π‘”π‘œπ‘œπ‘‘." He's not alone. The job statistics the government releases don't count the people that are unemployed longer than 6 months, are underemployed, or dropped off the statistics completely like my friend in his RV.

So, I do what I do. I want to at least be an oasis in the desert for the tens of thousands of people on LinkedIn that are out of work, feel trapped, and in financial trouble or dispair. I am going to dedicate my Happe Hour podcast on Saturday to the concept of "π–π‘πšπ 𝐒𝐟 𝐭𝐑𝐞 𝐣𝐨𝐛𝐬 𝐧𝐞𝐯𝐞𝐫 𝐜𝐨𝐦𝐞 π›πšπœπ€?"

I am going to try and reframe things for you and your LinkedIn Connections on what this new, rapidly changing economy looks like and how you can pivot into it.

You can find the Happe Hour podcast on nearly all podcast platforms including Apple, Amazon, IHeartRadio, Spotify, Spreaker, or pretty much anywhere you can listen to a podcast.

I want to give hope to the hopeless. Even if you don't need this information today, you might tomorrow and you might be able to share it with a friend, family member or someone on LinkedIn to give them hope on a gray day. The episode called π–π‘πšπ 𝐒𝐟 𝐭𝐑𝐞 𝐣𝐨𝐛𝐬 𝐧𝐞𝐯𝐞𝐫 𝐜𝐨𝐦𝐞 π›πšπœπ€? will be available Saturday morning.
