Writing is very much like bricklaying. You learn to put one brick on top of another and each brick we lay is easier than the last.

When we look back at the wall we’ve built, we can see the progress we’ve made towards the final destination. We can see the first line of bricks is not as straight as the last.

This is where writers have an advantage over bricklayers...we can easily edit our bricks. Important work takes time.

After all, Rome wasn’t built in a day. You just need to lay a brick to get started. Writing is hard work, but like bricklaying, the final results are quite satisfying.
