One year ago, a tornado caused significant damage across St. Louis, and recovery is still ongoing for many families today.
While the storm affected multiple communities, the path to recovery has been uneven. Families in historically under-resourced areas of the region have often faced greater barriers to rebuilding, shaped by long-standing inequities in access to insurance, housing stability, and recovery supports.
For many, recovery has meant continued displacement, financial strain, and the slow work of rebuilding daily life long after the initial disaster.
We remain grateful to our partners at the Urban League of Metropolitan St. Louis and 4theVille for the care, advocacy, and action they brought to families in the immediate aftermath of the storm. We are also deeply thankful for our Family Empowerment Program social workers and counselors who continue walking alongside families as they work toward greater stability and healing.
Recovery is a shared responsibility, one that extends beyond the moment of crisis and into the long-term commitments we make to one another as a community.
This weekend, the Urban League of Metropolitan St. Louis is hosting a Weekend of Service supporting ongoing tornado recovery efforts across St. Louis. We are grateful for their continued leadership and encourage others to support these efforts however they are able.
Tomorrow is our largest community distribution ever.
As part of “One Year Later: A Weekend of Service,” the Urban League of Metropolitan St. Louis will provide food, toiletries and essential items to support a community still recovering from the 2025 tornado.
